What to Expect at Your Pet’s Upcoming Vaccination Appointment

What to Expect at Your Pet’s Upcoming Vaccination Appointment

We’re looking forward to seeing you and your pet soon at Enfield Veterinary Hospital for their annual vaccination appointment.

Here’s a quick guide on what to expect during your visit:

A Full Health Check

Before any vaccination, your vet will perform a thorough physical examination to ensure your pet is happy and healthy. This includes checking things like their teeth.

Dental disease is very common in both dogs and cats. If any dental disease is found, your vet may recommend dental treatments to help keep your pet comfortable and healthy.

If your dog is over 8 years old or your cat is over 10 years old, you are also welcome to request a senior blood test at the time of vaccination. This can provide valuable information about your pet’s internal health and help detect issues early.

This appointment is also a great time to ask any questions or raise any concerns about your pet’s behaviour, habits, or wellbeing.

For Dogs:
Your dog will receive a C7 vaccine, which protects against several diseases, including:

  • C3 core vaccine (parvovirus, distemper, and hepatitis) – given every 3 years
  • Kennel cough and leptospirosis vaccines – given annually.

We also recommend ongoing parasite prevention, including:

  • Heartworm prevention – via an annual injection
  • Bravecto Quantum – a new annual injection for flea and tick protection, providing 12 months of coverage in just one visit. This is available from 12 months of age.
  • Intestinal worming – to be kept up regularly at home
For Cats:

Your cat will receive their F3 vaccine, which protects against cat flu and panleukopaenia (feline parvovirus). If your cat spends time outdoors, we’ll also talk to you about the FIV vaccine (feline AIDS), which helps protect cats at higher risk.
We will also recommend ongoing flea and tick prevention as well as regular intestinal worming.

We aim to make your visit as calm and smooth as possible for both you and your pet. If your pet is nervous at the vet, please let us know ahead of time so we can make their visit more comfortable. If you have any concerns let us know when you book, and we’ll make sure your vet has plenty of time to go through everything with you.

If you have any questions before your appointment, feel free to give us a call on (02) 9747 3999.
